CSU's Master of Commerce allows you to tailor your studies to complement your own career and professional needs. You can elect to complete one or two specialisations in areas of interest / need or decide to improve your general management knowledge. We offer you the complete flexibility to study whatever business subjects you want, when it suits you. You can choose from more than 100 business-related study options. Our online delivery means you can study from any location and at a time convenient to you.

Our Commerce degree offers you the flexibility to gain the level of qualification you need at each stage of your career or life. You could start with CSU's Graduate Certificate in Commerce, comprising four subjects. From there, you could go on to complete the full Master of Commerce, or exit from the Masters degree with a Graduate Diploma of Commerce after completing a total of eight subjects. If you do not have the time to commit to completing a whole degree, why not consider enrolling in a single subject to top up your knowledge? You can then receive credit for it when you decide to come back and complete your degree.

    CSU's Master of Commerce offers you the flexibility to tailor the course to meet your own career needs, interests and aspirations by selecting from more than 100 business-related subjects. Areas of study include accounting, business law, conflict and dispute resolution, finance, HR, industrial relations, international business, IT management, leadership, marketing, management, public sector management and sustainability management.

    Studying online gives you the flexibility to study from any location and at a time that is convenient to you. This means you can continue to study while travelling for work or balancing other commitments, such as family responsibilities. 

    Subjects are taught using a range of blended learning techniques, which include online education study materials, online meetings and subject forums. The course has been designed to maximise learning applications from a personal and professional perspective. The course will challenge the way you think and enable you to add real value to your workplace.

    The Master of Commerce provides graduates with the opportunity to complement and deepen their professional management and leadership skills and knowledge; expand their analytical, problem solving skills; and strengthen their communication and interpersonal skills, through selection of postgraduate business subjects/ specialisations tailored to their needs. Students choose a combination of subjects or specialisations offered in the program from areas including business strategy; marketing; economics; accounting, finance; change management; human resource management; project management; conflict resolution and marketing. The degree is designed to produce graduates with the theoretical frameworks and analytical tools necessary to manage successfully, to act professionally and ethically in their chosen field and to add significant value to their organisations.

    Course structure
    The Master of Commerce (MCom) is an articulated set with a Graduate Diploma subset which provides both entry and exit points.

    Each subject has a value of 8 points unless otherwise stated.

    DISTANCE EDUCATION

    Master of Commerce (12 subjects)

    The twelve subject (96 point) Master of Commerce consists of subjects chosen from the pool of approved MCom subjects. Students may elect to tailor their degree to specific discipline areas by completing one or more of the designated specialisations, or may elect to study any twelve subjects from across the program.

    Subjects that are counted towards one specialisation may not be counted again towards another. Students must contact the Course Director to receive approval for an alternate subject.

    Students who complete one or more of the designated specialisations will graduate with the specialisation names on their testamur.

    Master of Commerce (16 subjects)

    The 128 point Master course consists of sixteen subjects. This extended version of the MCom offers an opportunity for students who wish to graduate with an additional Specialisation. If a subject in the additional Specialisation has already been studied as part of another specialisation, the student will be required to undertake substitute subjects with the approval of the Course Director to make up a total of sixteen specialisation subjects.

    The course structure for the 16 subject MCom is similar to the structure listed for the 12 subject MCom.

    Subjects that are counted towards one Specialisation may not be counted again towards another. Students must contact the Course Director to receive approval for a substitute subject.

    Students who complete one or more of the designated specialisations will graduate with the Specialisation names on their testamur.

    Graduate Diploma of Commerce (8 subjects)

    The course consists of eight subjects chosen from the pool of approved MCom subjects. Students may enter directly into the Graduate Diploma or exit with that award from the MCom.

    Because of the flexibility of the course requirements, there is no prescribed enrolment pattern. Students may choose the order in which they undertake subjects, depending upon the availability of subjects and the meeting of pre-requisites, particularly in the students' chosen specialisation.

The CSU Study Centre Brisbane offers a course in Accounting. CSU Study Centres offer the latest technology, a busy calendar of student activities, and a diverse student population from all over the world. They are easily accessed by public transport and are close to shops, restaurants and city attractions.

  • Admission information

    Applicants are required to have an undergraduate degree from a recognised Australian tertiary institution (or equivalent). Applicants without a tertiary qualification may be admitted to the Graduate Diploma of Commerce on the basis of professional attainment and/or work experience.  Upon successful completion of the Graduate Diploma, students will then be eligible for admission to the Master of Commerce and receive credit for applicable subjects.

    School of Management and Marketing

    The School of Management and Marketing is a multi-campus school with staff and students on each of the University’s main campuses: Albury-Wodonga; Bathurst; and Wagga Wagga. The School also has many online students from across Australia as well as internationally located.

    Academic staff within the School teach and research in the discipline areas of Management and Marketing and many have extensive business and practical workplace experience that informs their teaching and research.

With a strong focus on quality work-integrated learning and teaching, the School seeks to produce graduates who are highly knowledgeable, insightful, reflective, ethical and workplace capable.   • Academic expectations

    For each 8 point subject at CSU, students should normally expect to spend between 140-160 hours engaged in the specified learning and assessment activities (such as attending lectures or residential schools, assigned readings, tutorial assistance, individual or group research/study, forum activity, workplace learning, assignments or examinations). The student workload for some subjects may vary from these norms as a result of approved course design.

    Students will be assessed on the basis of completed assignments, examinations, workplace learning, or other methods as outlined in specific subject outlines.

    Where applicable, students are responsible for travel and accommodation costs involved in workplace learning experiences, or attending residential schools (distance education students).

    Expectations relating to academic, workplace learning, time and cost requirements for specific subjects are provided in the subject abstracts and in course materials.

    Throughout their studies, CSU students have a responsibility to continue to develop skills in English Language, literacy and numeracy as appropriate to their discipline. This ongoing development will enable students to effectively participate in their course and graduate as competent professionals.
