The Master of Critical Care Paramedicine provides a high level of knowledge and skills to prepare you for advanced roles within paramedicine. Paramedicine is a registered profession governed by the Paramedicine Accreditation Committee in the National Registration Scheme. A postgraduate degree from Charles Sturt will ensure you continue your career with the best possible qualification.
Charles Sturt University was Australia's first provider of a paramedicine degree and has a proud history of producing high-quality paramedicine graduates with excellent employment outcomes. Throughout the course, you'll learn from academics who are international leaders, bringing diverse overseas experiences to the curriculum, while also maintaining close ties with the largest ambulance service in Australia, NSW Ambulance.
Study your paramedicine degree online for maximum flexibility, giving you the opportunity to combine work and study. The course also includes a residential school and an external practicum, where you'll further develop your skills and gain additional hands-on experience.
As well as expanding your clinical skills, this paramedicine degree builds your research capacity. You'll study two research subjects and have the opportunity to conduct an original research project.
The graduate certificate and graduate diploma are exit points, should you decide on a shorter course of study.
Your Master of Critical Care Paramedicine can open doors to employment opportunities across Australia and internationally. You could find a role as a critical care paramedic, intensive care paramedic, or mobile intensive care ambulance paramedic. You could also consider specialist roles in leadership, research or education, and other positions beyond the scope of traditional paramedic practice.
For each 8-point subject you are enrolled in, you should expect to spend 10 to 12 hours per week working on assignments and assigned readings, tutorial assistance, individual or group research/study, forum activity, workplace learning, and attending lectures, intensive schools, or examinations. If you are studying four subjects per session, this is equivalent to a full-time job. The workload for some subjects may vary as a result of approved course design.
You may need to attend an online or on-campus intensive school for certain subjects in this course. These schools usually involve lectures, tutorials and practicals that will give you a deeper understanding of your subject.

The Critical Care specialisation provides expert, specialised skills in advanced critical care. You'll learn to integrate advanced medical care, respiratory care, cardiac care and trauma techniques into your current practice and make expert judgments to ensure your patients experience the best possible care.
