At your own place and pace

Study online and choose between full-time and part-time options to fit in with work and lifestyle commitments. You could choose to study one subject per session or, in consultation with your course director, complete up to four subjects per session, allowing you to fast-track your degree. Subjects are taught using a range of blended learning techniques, which include online education study materials, video-captured lectures, online meetings, subject forums and additional study resources.

The School of Accounting and Finance

The School of Accounting and Finance designs subjects with input from industry professionals to ensure courses meet the academic requirements for accreditation with key professional bodies including CPA Australia, Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand, the Financial Planning Association and the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners; and to satisfy ASIC core knowledge areas.

The Financial Planning specialisation has been mapped against ASIC's regulatory guide 146 (RG146). If you complete this specialisation, you will also be eligible for advanced standing in the CFP® Certification Program (leading to the CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER® designation). Completion of the set of subjects forming the basis for the Estate Planning specialisation provides credits to be used toward membership of STEP - the Society for Trust and Estate Practitioners.

CSU's Master of Applied Finance is an Accredited Education Partner with STEP, the worldwide professional association for practitioners dealing with family inheritance and succession planning. STEP has more than 20,000 members from across 95 countries and is a worldwide network of trust and estate practitioners.

STEP's members comprise of lawyers, accountants, financial planners, trust specialists and those working in other wealth advisory and administration roles.

Graduates of the Master of Applied Finance (with specialisations) who complete the set of subjects that form the basis for the Estate Planning specialisation will be accredited, with credits that can be used towards STEP membership.

Membership benefits include networking with other professionals, keeping up-to-date with industry developments, showcasing your professional expertise and a number of exclusive discounts. Full STEP membership also leads to the use of the TEP initials, well-recognised within the industry.

The Financial Planning specialisation is listed as an approved degree by the Financial Planning Association of Australia. If you’ve studied before, you may be able to fast-track your postgraduate degree with Recognition for Prior Learning (RPL). If you’ve completed relevant tertiary study, you could be awarded credit for your postgraduate degree. Get in touch to see if you’re eligible for credit based on your previous qualifications or industry experience.

Students who have studied and successfully completed relevant subjects at other universities or educational institutions may apply for credit for those subjects when applying to CSU courses. Credit will be granted for subjects that are equivalent in content and standard, at the discretion of the Course Director.

Credit may be available for ANZIIF studies

Applicants who have completed the Graduate Certificate in Finance or the Graduate Certificate in Financial Planning will be awarded credit for the four subjects completed in the Graduate Certificate.
Applicants who have completed the Graduate Diploma of Finance and the Graduate Diploma of Financial Planning will be awarded credit for the eight subjects completed in the Graduate Diploma.

Subjects

For each 8 point subject you are enrolled in, you should expect to spend 10 to 12 hours per week working on assignments and assigned readings, tutorial assistance, individual or group research/study, forum activity, workplace learning, and attending lectures, residential schools, or examinations.

If you are studying four subjects per session, this is equivalent to a full-time job. The workload for some subjects may vary as a result of approved course design.

Master of Applied Finance

The course consists of twelve (12) subjects, four (4) of which are core subjects. For the general award of Master of Applied Finance the remaining eight (8) subjects are to be taken as follows; six (6) from the restricted elective offering and two (2) from any level five (5) subject offered by CSU. This provides students with the ability to 'tailor' their degree to suit their particular personal and career needs. As a CSU student, throughout your course you have a responsibility to continue to develop skills in English language, literacy and numeracy as appropriate to your discipline. This ongoing development will enable you to effectively participate in your course and graduate prepared to enter the workforce.

To graduate students must satisfactorily complete 96 points.

Aside from course tuition fees, all students who choose to study on campus incur other fees such as accommodation, Student Services and Amenities Fee (SSAF), Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) and other living expenses.

If you choose to study online, some subjects may require you to attend compulsory residential schools in Australia. Residential schools are held on campus in Australia for up to five days during certain sessions.

Online courses for international students do not meet the requirement for an Australian Student Visa, therefore you will need to check that you can obtain an appropriate visa for any residential school session.
