    Career opportunities

    The Bachelor of Border Management will give you the skills and knowledge for advancement in the field of customs and border management – in both the public and government sector and in the wide range of businesses involved in international trade.

    Work in the public sector

    Apply incoming legislation and policy to implement aspects of migration, customs, quarantine and security. Analyse and interpret international and national developments affecting border integrity and security and apply international legal principles and best practice administrative approaches to border management issues.

    Manage international trade

    Successfully navigate the transit of goods across sea, land borders or air travel in compliance with World Trade Organization law and other international legal obligations. Analyse and interpret international contracts of sale, payments, financing and documentation affecting international trade.

    Specialise in border management governance

    Research, locate and interpret information pertaining to corruption in the public domain and improve border management ethics and governance. Analyse existing levels of ethical behaviour and integrity in a border management environment and make recommendations for improvement in standards.

    What you will study

    For each 8-point subject you are enrolled in, you should expect to spend 10 to 12 hours per week working on assignments and assigned readings, tutorial assistance, individual or group research/study, forum activity, workplace learning, and attending lectures, intensive schools, or examinations. If you are studying four subjects per session, this is equivalent to a full-time job. The workload for some subjects may vary as a result of approved course design.

    Intensive school

    You may need to attend an online or on-campus intensive school for certain subjects in this course. These schools usually involve lectures, tutorials and practicals that will give you a deeper understanding of your subject.

    Three elective subjects (24 points) are required to be completed to complement the core subjects outlined above. Students can choose to study electives from wider CSU offerings but need to seek approval from the Course Director for those selections. The decision to support or reject a student’s elective enrolment will be solely focused on whether, in the Course Director’s opinion, the elective choice would contribute to the learning outcomes for the course. It is recommended that students choose from Level 2 and Level 3 subjects offered by the Australian Graduate School of Policing and Security and the Centre for Law and Justice. Students may also choose electives from the School of Indigenous Australian Studies at Level 1, Level 2 or Level 3.

    • A completed High School Certificate (or equivalent) with a minimum ATAR required (including adjustment factors),
      OR
    • Successful completion of at least two Bachelor degree level subjects (or Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) equivalent) or higher in any discipline,
      OR
    • A completed Vocational Education and Training (VET) Certificate III or higher, studied at a TAFE or Registered Training Organisation (RTO), or equivalent,
      OR
    • A completed Tertiary Preparation Certificate (TPC) or bridging program studied at a TAFE, Registered Training Organisation (RTO) or University, or equivalent,
      OR
    • Partial completion of a Vocational Education and Training (VET) Diploma, of at least 50% from a TAFE or Registered Training Organisation (RTO), or equivalent,
      OR
    • Two years full-time (or equivalent) work experience that demonstrates the development of literacy, analytical skills and broad general knowledge, evidenced by a detailed resume.
