Welcome to Port Macquarie Program
At Charles Sturt University, we understand it’s a big challenge to come to a different country and embrace a new way of life. In 2019, we are piloting an exciting program to help students adapt to their new environment and a different culture. Our new program helps you make new friends, get your accommodation sorted and helps prepare you for the Australian job market so that you can focus on your studies and starting life at Charles Sturt well.
As a commencing student, it can be hard and overwhelming to make new friends in a new community. G’Day Mates is here to help. It is not a mentoring program, it is so much more! G’Day Mates is a fun program that is about making new friends (or mates as we call them down under!). Make your first weeks on campus that much easier by connecting with both Australian and International students. You’ll get the insider information about Port Macquarie – from where to buy the best nasi goreng to café latte, which beach is the best one to find your ‘sea legs’, what are the best spots for spotting a koala in the wild and what community groups you can join to keep up your hobbies while away from home. Once you’ve settled in with the help of G’Day Mates, you will get the opportunity to become a future leader.
Welcome to Port Macquarie Accommodation Scholarships
The best way to adapt to a new country, a new city and a new campus is to be as close as possible to your network of friends and support. That’s why we recommend Hasting’s Village, our on-campus accommodation, as the best place for new students to live. On-campus accommodation costs include residence life (we call it res-life!) support for both social and academic activities, as well as water, electricity and internet bills. To help you settle at the Port Macquarie on-campus accommodation, we are offering a number of scholarships that will cover 50% of the on-campus room fees for your first semester with us.
Earn as you learn
A majority of our students work part-time along their studies. It’s an important experience of Australian study but it can be a challenge to find a job, so we are here to assist you. Earn as you learn is a new program that will help you get job ready and provide a connection with local employers. It consists of 2 days of intensive workshops covering resume development, employability skills, personal branding and how to pitch to an employer; with breakout sessions that cover needs specific to certain groups. You get to network with local employers and will have access to resources specifically targeted at international students.
