CSU is committed to internationally competitive research and research training.

Charles Sturt University engages in strategic, applied research that focuses on significant problems or issues. Key drivers for our research activities are quality and excellence, with an emphasis on the creation of new knowledge for the advancement of fields of study and the enhancement of the society in general.

CSU has a strong commitment to research and research education and we seek to actively promote the latest news on CSU research breakthroughs.

Key areas of research concentration and expertise can be identified through CSU's Research Centres and Institutes. Significant research also occurs outside of designate research centres, including in partnership with other universities, industry, business and not-for-profit organisations. CSU is committed to excellence in research, identifying and supporting areas and projects which allow for the undertaking of internationally competitive research and research training.

The University invests its resources in areas of proven and potential strength, significant to the University's mission. Such areas provide particular depth of academic and research capability to offer quality research and research training opportunities to staff, students and communities, including partners in industry, the professions and the communities of inland Australia.

In recognising the complexity and multi-disciplinary nature of issues confronting society, the University is committed to supporting collaborative and interdisciplinary research.

In line with this approach, CSU has established eight research centres: three Centres of Research Excellence; four Strategic Research Centres and; one Affiliated Research Centre. The centres have advisory or management committees with industry or international expert membership. Most Centres draw on membership across Faculties and provide support for higher degree research students through seminars and workshops. Portfolios of research and consulting amount to approximately AU$15 million annually.
